sidebar default sizes and transparency

I currently have my sidebar size set up as double grid, but when the site renders it starts as single grid and then goes to double. Is there a way for the site to start rendering the page with the sidebar as a double grid?

Also, is there a way to make the sidebar block transparent?

Order of Categories in Grid View

The categories grid on in the main content region (homepage) is defaulting to alphabetical by term. How can I control their order?

If the last row is less than full - the view gets squashed and distorted to 33%.
Had to add:
.cols-3 .row-last .views-col {
width: 92%;
}
to the views.css

Is there a better way? something built-in maybe?

Switch from 24 to 16 column grid on University Theme question

Hi, when I switched to Switch from 24 to 16 column grid on the University theme I lost Panel Fourth column 3. It basically turned into 2 column instead of three. Where in the code can I update to make it a three-column row again?

Also, is there an easy way to increase the gutter sizes for the entire grid? I would like to keep a grid layout but the overall design to too crowded, would like more white space.
