Problems setting up a child theme

Greetings!

I would like to know if there are any special requirements outside of the normal ones to create a child theme of Mitius?

I have created one that only has an images folder and the .info file that has tb_mitius as the base theme. When I activate the child theme, the site displays things all out of whack. Yet when I re-activate tb_mitius as the default theme everything looks as it should.

My .info file code ...

name = pb_blox
description = Custom theme for PB Blox This is a sub-theme based on the the tb_mitius base theme.
screenshot = images/screenshot.jpg

core = 7.x
engine = phptemplate
base theme = tb_mitius

I have included two screenshots, one with the demo profile loaded, and the other is the child theme activated.

There have been no other alterations, this is a fresh install of the tb_mitius demo profile.

Please advise,

Thank you ... Scott

UPDATE:

I have tried everything I know possible, I even duplicated the tb_mitius theme directory and only changed the name of the folder and the name of the theme in the .info file.

What ends up happening is the blocks are not getting placed in the same regions. When I went through and reset all the blocks to the correct regions I get an internal 500 error about not being able to declare a tb_mitius preprocess that was previously declared.

I'm going to assume the preprocess error is because the two themes are basically a duplicate. My next step would be to look and see if I can remove the preprocesses, but since I am unable to setup a proper parent-child link and have everything working properly, I don't think I am going to get anywhere on this.

My only option at this point is to give up and just start customizing the theme for my site. I absolutely hate doing this, as any new updates to the tb_mitius theme cause any changes I do to be overwritten.

I just can't imagine you guys wouldn't have a child theme setup already to be used, or at the very least allow for child themes to be created in the normal way that one would do so.

I'll have to say, I'm not too impressed at this point. Add to the fact that support questions here seem to go unanswered.
