Cannot get TB Nex Custom FrontPage & Attachments themes to work

We have a site that is similar to the TB Nex demo site. We want to use the grid display on the front page that is demonstrated on the TB Nex demo site. That is, make each cell in the grid unique to terms in a vocabulary, and show some info from a few nodes tagged with each term.

Having followed the instructions provided by ThemeBrain, many times, I cannot get it to work. I need help.

Just to recap: the TB Nex implementation is to create a Custom FrontPage view which selects through terms in a given vocabulary - in the TB Nex demo it's FASHION, ASIA, EUROPE, etc. In our implementation it's TREES, ASH, BIRCH, CEDAR, FISH, ALBACORE, BASS, COHO, BIRDS, AARDVARK, BUDGIE, CANARY, and we want Custom FrontPage to display only the top level terms - TREES, FISH, BIRDS - and not the second tier terms in the vocabulary.

I can get Custom FrontPage to do that, if that's all it does. It gives a nice display of nine cells, each containing a unique top level term. Just as I want it: like this.

In our database, as you would expect, each top level term (and each second level term) is tagged in a whole bunch of nodes,

As soon as I link Custom FrontPage to the Attachments view, things go crazy. Once the Attachments view is called on to display any detail at all, Custom FrontPage turns all the nine cells into repeats of each other, listing the same term from the vocabulary as the heading, and exactly the same nodes as the instances delivered by the Attachments view. It looks like this.

So, what am I doing wrong? Or what does the TB Nex implementation not anticipate in our real-world implementation. I have tried out numerous suggestions from the Drupal community. None of them have changed anything other than sometimes, I get nothing at all, instead of repetition of the same stuff.

Please - we purchased this theme, and have already spent way too much time trying to make this one very attractive feature work for us.

Thank-you.

Hi ArthurC,

You need to enable aggregation and add a filter to query distinct value only. Below are instructions:
* Log in to your site as admin
* Go to Views > Find and edit "Custom FrontPage" view
* Go to Advanced and enable "Use aggregation"
* At Filter Criteria area, add the filter "Content: Nid" with following configuration:

  • Aggregation type: Count DISTINCT
  • Operator: Is greater than
  • Value: 0

* Save configuration > Save the view

Thanks, Will, for replying.

I tried the steps you recommend, but by themselves they did not solve the first problem of getting just nine cells with content from each of nine vocabulary terms.

What I did do was install the TB Nex demo profile, and mimic it step for step in my own development site (where I am using just Nucleus and the basic TB Nex theme.) That worked, as far as getting the nine cells, with correct content.

What I could not do was get the nine cells, distributed in a 3x3 matrix, to display with cells in each row of equal heights.

For this topic, I will create a new question, "TB Nex - cannot get equal heights for cells in grid created by the Custom FrontPage view"

Hi, Did you resolved your problem? I have also the same article in my 9 cells and I dont know why. I did the same thing as the filters criteria and the relationship sections.

Actually, I've found I have a problem with the field Global View, and more particularly the contextual filter. I dont know yet why. When I put [!name], nothing is displayed. When I put [!views], I have the same picture in every cells.
